A History of Care

In 1977, Queen's Park Care Centre opened its doors with a special emphasis on long term care within a residential care environment.  Today, over three decades  later, Queen’s Park Care Centre continues to provide compassionate care (and new programs) for the aging population and persons with disabilities.

In British Columbia we are experiencing a tremendous surge in population coupled with the highest life expectancy rates in the country.  The result: an aging population.  While this may be good news to some, it also presents a challenge to healthcare organizations throughout the province.  At Queen’s Park Care Centre we have been anticipating and meeting this growing challenge head on – we consider it our responsibility and it is our desire to serve the needs of our community with constantly evolving, innovative programs and specialized services.
history

In 1983, the Queen’s Park - Fellburn Hospitals Foundationwas created to fund quality of life programs/projects needed to create a home-like environment.  Working with the generosity and support of the community, special needs items such as bathing tubs, wheelchairs, electric beds, transport vehicles, large screen TVs, a hydrotherapy pool, and day-to-day comfort items have been provided. Today, as Queen’s Park Healthcare Foundation, our focus and priorities are very much the same – and working closely with Care Centre management, our Foundation continues to make a difference.

Our commitment is to make life meaningful for all residents, patients and clients regardless of their level of disability or illness.  Whether it’s materials for building musical instruments or funds for much needed equipment, amenities that offer an improvement in the quality of life are considered essential by the Foundation.
